Gregg Krupa has been singing and playing the blues for almost 25 years. A native of Wexford, he started playing guitar at the age of 13. After high school he went straight into the Pittsburgh bar scene where he learned the ins and outs of the buisness he would work in his whole life.
He's played countless bars and one night stands working on his craft, appeared numerous times at the Pittsburgh Blues Festival, Carnegie Music Festival and Blues Fest North as well as performing on the Gateway Clipper Blues Cruise. He's opened for National Acts such as John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Buckwheat Zydeco, Sonny Landreth, Chris Duarte, Joe Bonnamassa and Cory Harris.
Gregg is no stranger to radio airplay. Aside from attaining regular rotation on several regional stations, he's also done live broadcasts on both the WYEP Blues Show and the WDVE Coffee House. His CD's have been played on radio stations in over 20 states.
A student of all music, Gregg has been inspired by such performers as Elvis Presley, Dean Martin, and Michael Nesmith as well as the traditional blues legends like Freddie King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Roy Buchanan and Danny Gatton, BB King and Albert Collins to name a few.
Gregg formed the band Gregg Krupa and Dirty Pool in 1992 and had great success but left the band in 1998. He did solo acoustic shows for one year before forming Gregg Krupa and the Boogie Monsters. After rockin’ the house for 6 years with the Boogie Monsters he decided to get back to his roots and the music he loves the most. In 2006 he joined Jill West and Blues Attack.
With the release of his CD Premium Brewed, he achieved tri-state acclaim with his band Dirty Pool. He followed that up with the live CD All Broked Up. He then released his third CD, the all acoustic Walkin' Into Warrendale. The December, 2000 release of the Boogie Monster's first CD Hi-Waiian State of Mind broke all anticipated sales records and received radio airplay and juke box hits all over the area, and in many other states. The February, 2002 release of Krupa’s second acoustic CD Traveler was also well received and the CD is now in its second printing. In 2003 he released the second Boogie Monster CD Hangin' with Otis. It's a true record of what Krupa can do when he’s on stage.
While some have compared him to Stevie Ray Vaughan and others say he reminds them of Eric Clapton, Gregg's true talents shine when he's playing an original composition and he can draw on his full talent to entertain and sometimes even amaze his audiences. |
