General

Do you have a swimming pool?
No, we don't. During most of our prime fishing season, it is too cold to go swimming anyway.

Do you allow small pets?
For several reasons we don't allow pets, of any size, in the building. A few of these are:
Allergies, pet hair imbedded in our blankets, noise, possible risks to our guests, and damage to floors and furnishings.

Do you have cabins?
No. We are a 12 room lodge, 6 rooms per wing connected by our dining/gathering room which looks out on the lake.

Do you have kitchenettes?
No. We have BBQ grills and a microwave oven available for guest use. We have picnic tables outside and tables inside in our dining/gathering room.

Do you have microwaves/coffee makers in the rooms?
No. We have a microwave available for public use in our dining/gathering room. We supply coffee at breakfast and upon request throughout the day.

Are there restaurants close by?
There are several restaurants from 1 to 5 miles away. We keep menus from several nearby restaurants at the lodge. Just ask to see them.

What is there to do in the area for wife/kids?
Some people like to sit and watch the lake. Many find it relaxing to
sit by the fire and read, do needlework, work on a puzzle, or watch TV.

Reelfoot State Park Visitor Center has:

The National Wildlife Refuge has a visitor center with a museum and an observation tower. (see this local school's fieldtrip page)

There is a State Park with playground structures and picnic tables. The Kiwanis park at the same location is usually open on weekends during spring and summer. It has miniature golf and a little train for kids to ride.

A flea market every weekend.

Union City (22 miles away) has:

Dyersburg (about 40-45 minutes away) has:

There are golf courses in the area.

Fishing

How far are you from your dock?
About 40-50 feet.

Do you have a pier for night fishing?
Our pier/dock is lighted and may be used for night fishing?

Do you have topological maps of the lake?
Topological Lake maps showing depths and trees are available. They do NOT show all stumps.

What is included with boat rental?
Boats are included with all fishing packages or are available for rent. Boat rentals include Flat bottom, metal jon boat 16' long, 48" wide with live well, Johnson 6 hp motor, one tank of gas, paddle, and anchor. Trolling motors are available to rent.

Can we bring our own boat and do you have a place to dock them?
Yes, you can bring your own boat but we will NOT be held responsible for any damage/loss to your boat. We have a pier/dock in front of the lodge but we do not have boat slips or a boat ramp. There is a public boat ramp a few hundred feet down the road. You can tie your boat to our dock or you can pull it up on the lake bank in front of the lodge. Before you decide to tow your boat to Reelfoot Lake, you should know that Reelfoot Lake is a large but very shallow lake. It averages 5-7 feet deep. There are some places that are 3 feet deep and a few pools that are 15-20 feet deep. The lake has many submerged cypress stumps so metal or wood boats with small motors are recommended. Fiberglass boats are easily ripped by stumps.

What is your package rate if we provide our own boat?
We take $10.00 off each package for guests providing their own boat. We have a lot of our own boats and will have to work around yours if you bring it.

What is the price of fishing licenses?
This varies by state residency, age, and number of days. You must have both a Reelfoot Preservation Permit to go out on the lake and a fishing license to fish. We are an authorized agent to sell licenses at the Lodge. For more information and prices on licenses and permits, please see the state's web page: http://www.state.tn.us/twra/fishfee.html

Are licenses included in your packages?
No.

Do you have a freezer for our fish?
Yes. Our freezer is free for use by our guests.

Why is it so hard to get a 1 or 2 day fishing package during prime season?
We are a very small lodge with just 12 rooms. Fishing season is our busiest time of the year and financially, we must try to keep all of our rooms full every day. It is extremely difficult to fill 1 or 2 day holes in our calendar. If we happen to have an opening, we will accommodate shorter packages or non-package stays within 1 week of check-in.

Can I get a guide for just one person?
Yes, however you will probably have to pay the minimum guide fee for 2 people.

Can someone with no guide and no knowledge of the lake come and expect to catch fish?
Yes, depending on how patient and quiet you are, However, you will probably get a better catch with a guide. Our guides spend many hours a season determining where, and at what depth, the fish are biting.

What if my spouse wants to fish/hunt but I don't, can we get just one package?
Yes, just call or email for our rates.

What is the best time to fish for crappie, bluegill / bream /brim , bass, catfish?
As with anything to do with the weather, it is hard to know when the best time to fish will be.
· Crappie bite when the water is still cold, typically Late Janary, February, March, April and early May, late September and October.
· Bluegill bite when it starts to warm up a little more, typically April, May and June, July, early August, and September.
· Catfish bite year-around.
· Bass bite from late February - November.

When is the best time for duck hunting early, middle, or late season?
No one knows when and where ducks and geese will fly. Some years the ducks come in early, some years they come in late.

Can a single hunter come hunt with a package?

How many people will your blinds hold?
Our guide's blinds can hold up to 9 people. The number of people in a blind varies from day to day.

How far are you from your blinds?
Our guides can typically get to them, from our dock, in 15-30 minutes.

No.
